Ode to Golden Venus Necklace Set

Sale price$6,820.00

The apple Venus holds represents her victory in the "Judgment of Paris," a mythological beauty contest. The contest arose when Eris, the goddess of Strife, was not invited to the wedding party of Thetis and Peleus. Seeking revenge for her exclusion, Eris hurled a golden apple engraved with the words "for the fairest" into the midst of the celebratory feast. A dispute immediately broke out between the goddesses Venus (Aphrodite), Juno (Hera), and Minerva (Athena), with each goddess insisting that she was the most deserving. Paris, a mortal, ultimately chose Venus, earning her the apple and eternal fame for her beauty above all other goddesses.

This story of Venus is depicted in the “Golden Venus” necklace set, which features a coin of Venus holding an apple while a red ruby encased in gold sits above the coin to highlight the prized fruit featured in the myth. The pink sapphire accompanies the goddess as a symbol of the love and beauty with which Venus is so closely identified.
